Cowl - I used the preload stress method of mounting my hinges.  Just drill them, proseal them to the cowl and cleco them in place.  Install the cowl and let the proseal dry.  Folks that have 600 hours on their installation have had no problems with hinge eyes breaking out.  So far so good.
